Atticus buys more shares of Freeport-McMoRan

Charlotte, N.C., Aug. 20 - Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. shareholders led by Atticus Capital LP reported beneficial ownership of 28,565,673 shares, or 7.48%, of the company's outstanding. The investor reported a series of transactions between Aug. 10 and Aug. 17 that included purchases, sales and the exercise of purchase and sale options for a total of 3,652,800 shares

As of Aug. 17, Atticus paid $986,975,005 for its holding in the Phoenix-based copper, gold and molybdenum mining, exploration and production company, according to a schedule 13D filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Atticus reported a 6.4% stake in the company on June 11, a prior SEC filing stated.
