Freddie Mac issues $25.75 billion in July, makes no repurchases

Tacoma, Wash., Aug. 25 - Freddie Mac's issuance of debt securities declined by 8.4% to $25.75 billion in July from $28.12 billion in June, according to the agency's summary for the month.

In comparison to July's month-over-month decline, June's issuance was nearly double the amount issued in May, $14.74 billion.

July's issuance represents a 6.8% decline from a year earlier, when the agency issued $27.64 billion of debt securities.

The agency has issued $162.45 billion so far this year. In the same period of 2010, it issued $223.03 billion.

The agency did not repurchase any debt securities in July, compared with $930 million in June.

In total, $4.22 billion of repurchases were made this year through July. In the first seven months of 2010, the agency repurchased $5.38 billion of debt securities.

The agency said that $18.94 billion of debt securities matured or were redeemed during July. The amount in June was $29.31 billion.

The total amount of debt securities outstanding at the end of July was $512.85 billion, up from $506.06 billion a month earlier and down from $568.10 billion in July 2010.

All of the debt securities referenced above have a term of more than one year.

When debt securities with a term of one year or less are added, the total amount of debt securities outstanding at the end of July was $694.27 billion, compared with $698.86 billion at the end of June and $773.31 billion at the end of July 2010.
