Freddie Mac issues $27.64 billion, buys back no securities during July

New York, Aug. 26 - Freddie Mac issued $27.64 billion of debt securities during July, according to the agency's summary for the month.

Last month's issuance lagged behind June, when the agency issued $42.39 billion of debt securities, but was more than double the $13.13 billion of debt securities issued in July 2009.

The agency did not repurchase any debt securities in July, compared with the $500 million bought back in June. The agency repurchased $500 million of debt securities in January, $70 million in February, none in March, $1.26 billion in April and $3.06 billion in May. It recorded $3.88 billion of repurchases in July 2009.

Freddie Mac said that a total of $45.46 billion of debt securities matured or were redeemed during July, and the total amount of debt securities outstanding at the end of the month was $568.1 billion.

In June, $42.1 billion of debt securities matured or were redeemed, and the total amount of debt securities outstanding at the end of the month was $585.63 billion.

All of the debt securities referenced above have a term of more than one year.

When debt securities with a term of one year or less are added, the total amount of debt securities outstanding at the end of July was $773.31 billion, compared with $803.83 billion at the end of June.

In other news, the agency reported that its total mortgage portfolio decreased at an annualized rate of 3.9% in July.
