Freddie Mac issues $11.84 billion debt, buys $359 million in November

Tacoma, Wash., Dec. 23 - Freddie Mac issued $11.84 billion of debt securities during November, according to the agency's summary for the month.

Last month's issuance is the lowest of any month so far this year. In October, the agency issued $21.13 billion of debt securities. It is also less than the $19.77 billion issued a year ago in November 2009.

In the first 11 months of 2010, the agency issued $302.88 billion of debt securities.

The agency repurchased $359 million of debt securities in November. It repurchased $745 million the month before. For the year so far, Freddie Mac has repurchased $6.49 billion of debt securities and made the bulk of its repurchases in April and May.

The agency said that $14.73 billion of debt securities matured or were redeemed during November, and the total amount of debt securities outstanding at the end of the month was $521.32 billion. A year earlier, the total was $578.14 billion.

In October, $23.04 billion of debt securities matured or were redeemed, and the total amount of debt securities outstanding at the end of the month was $524.70 billion.

All of the debt securities referenced above have a term of more than one year.

When debt securities with a term of one year or less are added, the total amount of debt securities outstanding at the end of November was $714.21 billion, compared with $725.26 billion at the end of October and $809.22 billion at the end of November 2009.
