Freddie Mac issues $21.13 billion debt, buys $745 million in October

New York, Nov. 23 - Freddie Mac issued $21.13 billion of debt securities during October, according to the agency's summary for the month.
Last month's issuance was lower than September, when the agency issued $21.87 billion, and higher than October 2009, when it issued $14.65 billion. Over the last 12 months, the agency has issued an average of $28.83 billion each month.
The agency repurchased $745 million of debt securities in October after forgoing any purchases in September. For the year so far, Freddie Mac has made the bulk of its repurchases in April and May, when it repurchased $1.26 billion and $3.06 billion, respectively.
The agency said that $23.04 billion of debt securities matured or were redeemed during October, and the total amount of debt securities outstanding at the end of the month was $524.7 billion. A year earlier, the total was $578.22 billion.
In September, $51.44 billion of debt securities matured or were redeemed, and the total amount of debt securities outstanding at the end of the month was $527.32 billion.
All of the debt securities referenced above have a term of more than one year.
When debt securities with a term of one year or less are added, the total amount of debt securities outstanding at the end of October was $725.26 billion, compared with $742.55 billion at the end of September and $814.1 billion at the end of October 2009.
