Freddie Mac buys back $28.421 billion of one year-plus debt in 2009

New York, Sept. 25 - Freddie Mac has made $28.421 billion of repurchases of securities with maturities of greater than one year for the year through August 2009, according to the agency's monthly volume summary for August.

This compares to $17.954 billion of purchases during all of 2008.

The 2009 purchases include $22.484 billion in June, $3.875 billion in July and $2.026 billion in August.

Outstanding debt at the end of August was $854.274 billion of debt securities with maturities of over one year. At the end of June 2009, that figure was $857.271 billion while it came in at $844.301 billion in July.

At the end of 2008, there was $870.276 billion of debt securities with similar maturities outstanding.
