Freddie Mac issues $12.57 billion, buys $2.78 billion in September

Tacoma, Wash., Oct. 23 - Freddie Mac issued $12.57 billion of debt securities during September, according to a summary for the month filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The agency said $25.73 billion of debt securities matured or were redeemed during the month, and another $2.78 billion of debt securities were repurchased.

In September 2008, the agency issued $5.04 billion of debt securities, and $37.28 billion of debt securities matured or were redeemed. Another $796 million were repurchased.

The total amount of Freddie Mac debt securities outstanding was $584.63 billion at the end of September, compared with $539.37 billion at the end of September 2008.

For the year through September, $293.77 billion of debt securities have been issued and $31.20 billion have been repurchased. In all of 2008, $244.31 billion of debt securities were issued and another $17.95 billion were repurchased.

All of the debt securities referenced above have a term of more than one year.

When debt securities with a term of one year or less are added, $826.16 billion of Freddie Mac debt securities were outstanding at the end of September, compared with $814.94 billion at the end of September 2008.
