S&P: GM, Ford unaffected

Standard & Poor's said General Motors Corp.'s (BBB-/stable/A-3) and Ford Motor Co.'s (BBB-/stable/A-3) disclosure that they have received requests from the Securities and Exchange Commission for information regarding their pension accounting does not have any immediate implications for the ratings or rating outlooks.

As of yet, S&P said there is no indication that this is a formal investigation.

Consistent with its criteria for assessing postretirement benefits obligations, S&P said it already considered the effect that certain pension-related assumptions have on these companies' reported earnings and liability amounts.
