San Diego, June 22 - Fannie Mae has appointed Susan R. McFarland as the company's executive vice president and chief financial officer effective July 11, according to a press release.

McFarland joins Fannie Mae from Capital One Financial Corp., where she served as executive vice president and finance and principal accounting officer and led a team of 500 professionals. She also spent 16 years at Bank One as it built out its consumer franchise. Her background in accounting, controls and operating finance has been applied to various roles in tax, budgeting/forecasting, financial planning/analysis and financial systems in both operating and enterprise-wide positions.

"Susan is an outstanding addition to our management team as we continue to strengthen Fannie Mae's business and position the company to most effectively serve the market in the future," president and chief executive officer Michael J. Williams said in the release. "She has a proven record of accomplishment in consumer and retail financial services, seasoned leadership abilities and strong business instincts, which have been proven time and again."

McFarland is a graduate of Texas A&M University and Stanford University's executive program.

Fannie Mae is located in Washington, D.C., and operates in the U.S. secondary mortgage market.
