Fannie Mae new issues decline 79.4% year over year to $6.92 billion

Tacoma, Wash., May 27 - Fannie Mae issued $6.92 billion of debt securities during April, according to the agency's summary for the month.

The month's issuance is a little more than half of the $12.89 billion issued in March and is a decline of 79.4% from the $33.61 billion issued in April 2010.

Of the past 13 months, April saw the least amount of issuance. The average amount of debt securities issued each month over this period was $40.2 billion.

The agency repurchased $185 million of debt securities in April. The amount of debt securities repurchased in the first four months of the year, $2.19 billion, already outpaces the amount repurchased in all of 2010, $1.33 billion.

Fannie Mae said that $23.9 billion of debt securities matured or were redeemed during April, and the total amount of debt securities outstanding at the end of the month was $609.73 billion.

In April 2010, $31.35 billion of debt securities matured or were redeemed, and the total amount of debt securities outstanding at the end of the month was $593.79 billion.

All of the debt securities referenced above have a term of more than one year.

When debt securities with a term of one year or less are added, $784.79 billion of Fannie Mae debt securities were outstanding at the end of April, compared with $814.27 billion at the end of April 2010.
