Fannie Mae issues $30.01 billion, buys back $200 million in February

Tacoma, Wash., March 30 - Fannie Mae issued $30.01 billion of debt securities during February, according to the agency's summary for the month.

The month's issuance is about the same as that of January, when the agency issued $29.94 billion of debt securities, and less than the $40.90 billion of debt securities issued in February 2009.

The agency repurchased $200 million of debt securities in February, compared with none in January and $456 million in February 2009.

Fannie Mae said $34.49 billion of debt securities matured or were redeemed during February, and the total amount of debt securities outstanding at the end of the month was $581.65 billion.

In January, $28.79 billion of debt securities matured or were redeemed, and the total amount of debt securities outstanding at the end of the month was $586.36 billion.

All of the debt securities referenced above have a term of more than one year.

When debt securities with a term of one year or less are added, $767.09 billion of Fannie Mae debt securities were outstanding at the end of February, compared with $764.80 billion at the end of January and $869.33 billion at the end of February 2009.
