Tacoma, Wash., Oct. 28 - Fannie Mae issued $46.20 billion of debt securities during September, according to the agency's summary for the month.

The month's issuance is the most recorded in any month this year except August, when the agency issued $51.89 billion of debt securities. September's issuance is also more than three times the $15.04 billion issued a year earlier in September 2009.

The agency has not repurchased any debt securities since May, leaving the total amount of debt securities repurchased in 2010 at $1.24 billion so far. In 2009, the agency's repurchases totaled $6.92 billion.

Fannie Mae said that $36.60 billion of debt securities matured or were redeemed during September, and the total amount of debt securities outstanding at the end of the month was $610.81 billion.

In August, $41.59 billion of debt securities matured or were redeemed, and the total amount of debt securities outstanding at the end of the month was $601.16 billion.

All of the debt securities referenced above have a term of one year or more.

When debt securities with a term of less than one year are added, $830.21 billion of Fannie Mae debt securities were outstanding at the end of September, compared with $841.75 billion at the end of August and $815.51 billion at the end of September 2009.
