Fannie Mae issues $13.45 billion of debt, buys back none in November

By Angela McDaniels

Tacoma, Wash., Dec. 30 - Fannie Mae issued $13.45 billion of debt securities during November, according to the agency's summary for the month.

The figure is lower than the $20.70 billion issued in October and makes November the month with the least amount of issuance so far in 2009. It is higher, however, than the $3.67 billion of debt securities issued in November 2008.

The month with the greatest amount of issuance so far in 2009 is February with $40.90 billion.

The agency repurchased no debt securities in November, compared with $491 million in October and $206 million in November 2008.

Fannie Mae said $7.94 billion of debt securities matured or were redeemed during November, and the total amount of debt securities outstanding at the end of the month was $590.39 billion.

In October, $9.84 billion of debt securities matured or were redeemed, and the total amount of debt securities outstanding at the end of the month was $584.86 billion.

All of the debt securities referenced above have a term of more than one year.

When debt securities with a term of one year or less are added, $782.28 billion of Fannie Mae debt securities were outstanding at the end of November, compared with $803.54 billion at the end of October and $885.62 billion at the end of November 2008.
