Fitch drops West Penn Allegheny bonds to BB-

Fitch Ratings said it downgraded West Penn Allegheny Health System's $758.7 million outstanding series 2007A bonds issued by the Allegheny County Hospital Development Authority, Pa., to BB- from BB and placed the bonds on Rating Watch negative.

The downgrade reflects deterioration of the system's profitability history and near-term expectations following the announcement Tuesday of a $73 million charge against earnings.
