S&P's Entel ratings unaffected

Standard & Poor's said its ratings on Empresa Nacional de Telecomunicaciones SA ("Entel"; BBB+/negative) remain unchanged after the company announced the sale of its 80% stake in Americatel Corp. for a firm value of $62 million. The sale is subject to U.S. Antitrust and Communication Authorities approval.

S&P said the ratings remain unaffected because these operations are noncore for the company and the ratings already reflected the possibility of the sale. Americatel's operations represented about 9% of Entel's sales in 2005, but only 2% of consolidated EBITDA generation.
