S&P affirms Empresa Electrica de Guatemala

Standard & Poor's said it affirmed the BB long-term corporate credit ratings on Empresa Electrica de Guatemala SA.

The outlook is stable.

S&P said the ratings are constrained by the operating environment in the Republic of Guatemala (foreign-currency BB/positive/B; local-currency BB+/positive/B).

The ratings also reflect the company's limited financial flexibility given Guatemala's undeveloped capital markets, the agency said.

The ratings are supported by the company's natural monopoly, regulatory framework for energy companies, management's experience, strong cash flow protection and adequate liquidity, S&P said.
