Morgan Stanley Emerging Markets Debt to change name, strategy

By Toni Weeks

San Diego, March 2 - The board of directors of Morgan Stanley Institutional Fund, Inc. has approved changes to the name and investment policy of the Emerging Markets Debt Portfolio, according to a 497 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Effective April 30, the portfolio's name will be changed to the Emerging Markets Domestic Debt Portfolio.

At that time, the fund will invest, under normal market circumstances, at least 80% of its assets in debt securities of issuers located in emerging market countries that are denominated in local currency.

Prior to the strategy change, the fund invested in debt securities of issuers located in emerging market countries, with no restrictions on currency.

New York-based Morgan Stanley Investment Management Inc. serves as the fund's investment adviser.
