Emerging Global, TCW launch investment-grade emerging market funds

By Susanna Moon

Chicago, Jan. 8 - Emerging Global Advisors and TCW Group said they launched a suite of emerging market investment-grade fixed-income exchange-traded funds.

The funds are the EGShares TCW EM Short Term Investment Grade Bond ETF (Symbol: SEMF), the EGShares TCW EM Intermediate Term Investment Grade Bond ETF (Symbol: IEMF) and the EGShares TCW EM Long Term Investment Grade Bond ETF (Symbol: LEMF).

The offerings are the industry's first suite of emerging market fixed-income ETFs to provide duration-defined exposure to dollar-denominated, investment-grade emerging market sovereign and corporate bonds, according to a press release by the companies.

All three funds are advised by EGA, sub-advised by TCW and track custom indexes created and monitored by JPMorgan.

The funds will be managed by Penelope D. Foley and David I. Robbins, group managing directors of emerging markets strategies at TCW.

The short-term fund seeks investment results that correspond with the performance of the J.P. Morgan Custom EM Short Term Investment Grade Bond Index, which comprises emerging markets bonds denominated in dollars with remaining maturities between one and three years

The intermediate-term fund seeks investment results that correspond with the performance of the J.P. Morgan Custom EM Intermediate Term Investment Grade Bond Index, which comprises emerging markets bonds denominated in dollars with remaining maturities between four and seven years.

Finally, the long-term fund seeks investment results that correspond with the performance of the J.P. Morgan Custom EM Long Term Investment Grade Bond Index, which comprises emerging markets bonds denominated in dollars with remaining maturities between eight and 12 years.

Emerging Global Advisors, the asset manager to the EGShares exchange-traded fund offering, is based in New York. TCW is an asset management firm based in Los Angeles.
