Document Sciences to operate as EMC business unit

Charlotte, N.C., March 6 - EMC Corp. completed its $85.5 million acquisition of Document Sciences Corp.

Under the companies' Dec. 27 definitive agreement, Document Sciences stockholders will receive $14.75 per share.

Document Sciences will operate as a business unit within EMC's content management and archiving division. Objectiva, Document Sciences' outsourcing business, will become a wholly owned subsidiary of EMC, a company news release stated.

EMC previously said the acquisition was designed to complement and extend its position in the transactional content management marketplace.

Document Sciences is a provider of customer communications management solutions based in Carlsbad, Calif.

EMC, located in Hopkinton, Mass., develops and supports information infrastructure technology and solutions.
