Eastwind Maritime trustee seeks extension of powers amid wind-down

By Kali Hays

New York, March 25 - Eastwind Maritime Inc.'s Chapter 7 trustee, Salvatore LaMonica, requested that judge Allan L. Gropper enter an interim order extending his authorization as trustee through June 30 to complete the company's wind-down of operations, according to a Tuesday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

LaMonica claimed that in order to preserve value of remaining company assets, "it is imperative that the trustee be permitted to continue to pay certain expenses of these estates." He said he is requesting the time "to accomplish a successful wind-down in a timely fashion," according to the filing.

LaMonica's current authorization as trustee is set to end on March 31.

Eastwind Maritime, a Marshall Islands-based shipping company, filed for bankruptcy on June 24, 2009. Its Chapter 7 case number is 09-14014.
