By Elaine Rigoli

Tampa, Fla., May 18 - Albany Molecular Research, Inc. announced the construction of a new 50,000 square foot research and development center at the Shapoorji Pallonji Biotech Park in Hyderabad, India.

When completed in late 2007, the new center will conduct contract projects in early stage drug-discovery research, including custom chemical synthesis and medicinal chemistry, the company said in a news release.

In addition, the new facility will house a scale-up laboratory to develop efficient methods for producing larger quantities of active pharmaceutical ingredients and intermediates.

Based in Albany, N.Y., Albany Molecular provides chemistry services to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies.
