Delphi records $170 million January operating loss

Pittsburgh, Feb. 29 - Delphi Corp. reported a $170 million operating loss for January on $770 million in total net sales, according to its monthly operating report filed Friday with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The figures showed improvement over a $237 million December operating loss on $606 million in total net sales.

The January net loss was $163 million, also vastly improved from a $964 million December net loss.

Cash and cash equivalents on Jan. 31 were $48 million, compared with $113 million at the end of December.

Delphi, a Troy, Mich.-based automotive electronics manufacturer, filed for bankruptcy on Oct. 8, 2005 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. Its Chapter 11 case number is 05-44481.
