Copeland Sports liquidation underway for 11 stores

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Sept. 15 - Copeland Sports has begun the liquidation of 11 stores located in California, Utah, Nevada and Oregon, according to a Friday news release.

Copeland began store-closing sales on Wednesday through liquidator Great American Group.

"Closing these stores was a difficult decision, but one that was necessary for the long term economic benefit of the company," new Copeland chief executive officer Barry Soosman said in the release.

"Our remaining 20 stores are open for business as usual."

Copeland, a San Luis Obispo, Calif., regional specialty sporting goods retailer, filed for bankruptcy on Aug. 14 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. Its Chapter 11 case number is 06-10853.
