Gamco, Gabelli make initial purchase of UAP Holding stock

Charlotte, N.C., Jan. 10 - Investors led by Gamco Asset Management Inc. and Gabelli Funds, LLC purchased 2,871,630 shares of UAP Holding Corp. for an initial stake in the company of 5.47%.

The shares were acquired between Dec. 3 and Jan. 9, priced from $38.22 to $38.85 each, according to a schedule 13D filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

On Dec. 3 Agrium, Inc. announced an agreement to acquire UAP for $39 per share, or $2.65 billion including debt.

UAP Holding, located in Greeley, Colo., is the holding company of UAP Inc., an independent distributor of agricultural and non-crop products in the United States and Canada.
