Agriprocessors trustee asked to give reasons for delay in closing case

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, April 5 – Agriprocessors, Inc.’s Chapter 7 trustee was ordered by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Iowa on Friday to file a report on the status of the company’s case.

“No activity has occurred in this case for some time,” judge Thad J. Collins said in the order.

As a result, Collins ordered the trustee to file a report detailing the reasons for the delay in finalizing the case, actions that must be taken before the case can be closed and an estimate of when those tasks can be completed so the case can be closed.

The report is due in two weeks.

Agriprocessors, a Potsville, Iowa-based kosher meat and poultry packer and food processor, filed for bankruptcy on Nov. 4, 2008 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York. Its case was later transferred to Northern Iowa. Its Chapter 7 case number is 08-02751.
