Affymetrix to consolidate operations as part of restructuring

Charlotte, N.C., Sept. 13 - Affymetrix, Inc., as part of its restructuring plan, will consolidate the Bedford, Mass., facility's instrument manufacturing operations with the company's probe array manufacturing facility in West Sacramento, Calif.

Also, the instrumentation development capabilities will be consolidated with principal research and development facilities in Santa Clara, Calif.

The restructuring should eliminate or transfer about 80 positions beginning in the fourth quarter and materially close the Bedford facility by the third fiscal quarter of 2007, the company said.

Affymetrix is a medical technology company based in Santa Clara, Calif.
