VeraSun Energy looks to extend exclusive filing period to July 31

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, June 19 - VeraSun Energy Corp. is seeking an extension to its exclusive periods to file a plan of reorganization and to solicit votes on the plan, according to a Friday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.

Specifically, the company is asking the court to extend its exclusive plan-filing period to July 31 from June 30 and the solicitation period to Sept. 30 from Aug. 31.

VeraSun said it is working to resolve the remaining issues in its bankruptcy case, including finalizing the liquidation and monetization of remaining assets and various claims and including developing and filing a plan.

The company said it should be able to file the plan by the end of July.

A hearing is scheduled for July 8.

VeraSun, based in Brookings, S.D., produces renewable fuel. The company filed for bankruptcy on Oct. 31, 2008. Its Chapter 11 case number is 08-12606.
