Southern Montana Electric trustee wants more time to choose proposal

By Jim Witters

Wilmington, Del., Oct. 3 - The Chapter 11 trustee for Southern Montana Electric Generation and Transmission Cooperative, Inc. is seeking an extension of the deadline for selecting a proposal to form the basis for his plan of reorganization, according to an Oct. 3 filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Montana.

Trustee Lee. A. Freeman is seeking to extend the deadline to Nov. 16 from Oct. 15.

On July 3, the court approved a motion by the trustee to solicit proposals, with a Sept. 17 deadline for interested parties to respond.

Oct. 15 is the deadline for the trustee to complete the review, consideration, discussion, negotiation and selection of a proposal.

Freeman said he needs additional time, because his wife passed away this past weekend during a trip to California for their daughter's wedding.

No hearing date has been scheduled for consideration of the request.

Southern Montana filed for bankruptcy on Oct. 21, 2011 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Montana. The Billings, Mont.-based cooperative's Chapter 11 case number is 11-62031.
