Seahawk gets OK to solicit votes through Aug. 30 confirmation hearing

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., Aug. 9 - Seahawk Drilling Inc. was granted an extension to its exclusive period for soliciting votes on a plan of reorganization by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas on Tuesday, according to an attorney familiar with the case.

The company's exclusive solicitation period was extended through the conclusion of the Aug. 30 plan confirmation hearing, from Aug. 11.

Previously, Seahawk Drilling said that while it was optimistic that its plan will be confirmed following the hearing, it asked for the additional time "to avoid unnecessary disruptions to the solicitation process that is underway and the consensus on the proposed plan that currently exists."

The Houston-based offshore drilling company filed its plan in May, and the disclosure statement was approved on July 7.

Seahawk Drilling filed for bankruptcy on Feb. 11. The Chapter 11 case number is 11-20089.
