Knoxville, Tenn., Feb. 6 - Octavian Advisors, LP said in a press release it has hired Arif Gangat as a managing director and Oscar Mockridge as a director to oversee international distressed debt investments.

Gangat previously worked at Southpaw Asset Management, where he oversaw distressed debt and special situation equity investments. Prior to Southpaw, Gangat was a managing director at Sandell Asset Management.

"The turmoil in worldwide markets provides a perfect backdrop for Octavian's unique style of investing," Octavian's co-founder and chief executive officer, Richard Hurowitz, said in the release. "I have worked with both Arif and Oscar for over six years and their analytical and risk management skills will be a tremendous asset as we continue to expand our worldwide distressed investing capabilities."

New York-based Octavian Advisors is an alternative investment firm, with operations in Dallas and an affiliate office in Auckland, New Zealand.
