Fitch: Northrop, EADS, Boeing unchanged

Fitch Ratings said that the U.S. Air Force's announcement that it selected the Northrop Grumman Corp. (BBB+/stable)/European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co. NV (EADS, BBB+/F2/stable) team for the KC-45A aerial refueling tanker contract will not have a near-term impact on the ratings or outlooks of Northrop, EADS or Boeing Co. (A+/F1/stable).

Although Fitch said it had considered Boeing the favorite for the contract, there will likely be limited financial impact on any of the competitors in 2008 and only a modest financial impact in 2009.

In the intermediate term, the agency said that the contract outcome could contribute to credit quality trends at the three companies, noting that the contract is potentially worth $35 billion over 10 years and it is the first of three likely deals to replace the Air Force's existing tanker fleet.
