MSRB adds Sharon Zackula as counsel to market regulation department

By Toni Weeks

San Luis Obispo, Calif., May 19 - The Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board has hired Sharon Zackula as associate general counsel to its market regulation department, according to a press release.

Zackula joins after more than 17 years at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, where she was associate general counsel and associate vice president. At Finra she handled a variety of regulatory and policy matters, with a focus on fixed-income securities, and served as the Office of General Counsel's primary liaison to the MSRB, the Securities and Exchange Commission and other Finra departments on fixed-income policies and rules.

Prior to her employment with Finra, Zackula was a special counsel in the division of Trading and Markets at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Before that, she was in private practice, serving as counsel in municipal securities offerings. She began her legal career as an attorney in SEC's division of Market Regulation.

"We couldn't be more pleased that Sharon has become part of the MSRB's regulatory and policy staff," executive director Lynnette Kelly said in the release. "Her broad expertise in the fixed-income markets complements our existing team focused on regulation of the municipal securities market."
