James River Coal marks $7 million October operating loss, revenue down

New York, Dec. 4 – James River Coal Co. reported a $7.43 million operating loss for October on total revenue of $5.35 million, according to its monthly operating report filed Wednesday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

In comparison, James River posted an operating loss of $4.86 million on total revenue of $7.46 million for September.

The net loss for October was $8.33 million, declining from a net income of $687,000 in September.

The company also reported cash and cash equivalents of $9.28 million as of Oct. 31, down from $13.59 million at the end of September.

James River, a coal company based in Richmond, Va., filed for bankruptcy on April 7, 2014 under Chapter 11 case number 14-31848.
