Markit says U.S. leveraged loans index rose 0.25% in week of March 12

By Sara Rosenberg

New York, March 19 - The Markit iBoxx USD Leveraged Loans index was stronger by 0.25% in the week of March 12, compared to a 0.13% improvement in the week of March 5, according to data from Markit Group Ltd.

The Markit iBoxx USD Liquid Leveraged Loans index was up 0.29% last week, versus being flat in the prior week.

Year to date, the Leveraged Loans index is up 3.43%, and the Liquid Leveraged Loans index has gained 4.01%.

The average bid in North America was 93.06, compared to 93.04 in the week of March 5.

"Positive reaction from what is at least a near-term stabilization of sovereign issues in Europe and the stress tests in the U.S. pushed loans returns to their highs of the year," said Otis Casey, director and loan market analyst at Markit.

"Liquid loans have eclipsed the 4% threshold, year to date, indicating a strong start to the year for the asset class," Casey added.
