Kaufman Bros. to expand into fixed income as part of Lorenzo investment
By Jennifer Lanning Drey
Portland, Ore., April 16 - Kaufman Bros., LP will establish a fixed-income desk as part of a strategic partnering with an investment group led by Benny Lorenzo, Kaufman Bros. announced in a news release.
Kaufman Bros. expects to make a few hires over the next few quarters as part of the expansion into fixed income, Robert Kaufman, president and director of research for Kaufman Bros., said Thursday.
The firm believes the current dislocation of the financial community creates a unique opportunity for firms that are focused and consistent and operate a lean and efficient business, Kaufman said.
Under the strategic partnering, Lorenzo, through BLMK Capital Management LLC, acquired a majority interest in Kaufman Bros.
The investment also includes plans for the firm to achieve minority business enterprise certification and further develop its reputation in research, investment banking and securities trade execution services in the technology, media, telecom and green technology spaces, the release said.
Kaufman Bros. is a New York-based full-service investment bank and broker-dealer.
