JPMorgan launches GABI series of global investment-grade bond indexes

By Jennifer Chiou

New York, Nov. 19 - JPMorgan announced the introduction of the J.P. Morgan Global Aggregate Bond Index series, a family of new aggregate investment-grade bond index offerings that provide investors better access to the global credit markets.

The company said that JPM GABI and JPM GABI US are the first two indexes to be rolled out.

The JPM GABI includes globally issued investment-grade debt, denominated in multiple currencies, the company release said. It totals more than $20 trillion in market value and contains about 5,500 instruments issued in more than 25 currencies from more than 60 countries.

The release added that JPM GABI US is a benchmark of dollar-denominated investment-grade debt, spanning asset classes from developed to emerging markets. It totals $8.6 trillion in market value and contains about 3,200 instruments issued in dollars from more than 50 countries.

"The JPM GABI series provides investors with more benchmark options to diversify their index product exposure," Gloria Kim, head of J.P. Morgan's global index research team, said in the release.

"It is constructed in a way that allows users to easily attribute index performance by asset class and currency."

According to the company, the JPM GABI collectively consists of nine distinct asset classes, including: developed markets treasuries, emerging markets local treasuries, emerging markets external debt, U.S. credit, Euro credit, emerging markets credit, U.S. mortgage-backed securities, U.S. agencies and Pfandbriefe.
