Dune Energy creditors committee looks to hire McKool Smith as counsel

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, April 20 – Dune Energy, Inc.’s official committee of unsecured creditors requested court approval to hire McKool Smith, PC as its counsel, according to an April 20 filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Texas.

If approved, the hiring will be retroactive to March 24.

McKool will provide legal services to the committee in connection with Dune’s Chapter 11 case, including analyzing claims, investigating the company’s financial condition and representing the committee at hearings.

The committee said the hourly rates from McKool’s principals currently range from $540 to $1,145, the hourly rate for its other attorneys from $355 to $695 and the hourly rate for its legal assistants from $95 to $340.

However, the committee said the rates for counsel used in Dune’s case will be “substantially discounted.”

A hearing is scheduled for May 18.

Dune is a Houston-based energy company that filed for bankruptcy on March 9. The Chapter 11 case number is 15-10336.
