Moody's: Good news for Dish Network

Moody's Investors Service said news that the Dish Network Corp., which has a corporate family rating of Ba3, is being granted its petition for hearing en banc regarding the judgment against it by TiVo Inc. could have positive credit implications if the appeal has a successful outcome. That could result in billions of dollars in savings of potential higher costs over future years, the agency said.

Moody's said it believes the consequences of a more favorable ruling by the larger court could have positive credit ramifications for Dish Network in the near term by virtue of the cash judgment and over the longer-term if it results in Dish being able to continue offering its DVR service without paying a significant licensing fee to TiVo.

The outlook is stable.
