DBSD North America gets FCC OK to extend license deadline to July 28

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Feb. 11 - DBSD North America, Inc. has received approval from the Federal Communications Commission to extend its deadline for completing the transfer of its FCC licenses to July 28 from March 28, according to a Feb. 11 filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

As previously reported, DBSD has received a commitment from DISH Network Corp. to acquire 100% of DBSD's equity for $1 billion.

The investment agreement could be terminated if the company does not receive FCC approval for the license transfers.

DBSD is a subsidiary of ICO Global Communications (Holdings) Ltd., a Reston, Va., mobile satellite services company. The subsidiary filed for bankruptcy on May 15, 2009. Its Chapter 11 case number is 09-13061.
