S&P might lower CenterPoint

S&P said it placed its long-term ratings on CenterPoint Energy Inc., CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric LLC and CenterPoint Energy Resources Corp. on CreditWatch with negative implications, including the A- issuer credit ratings.

The agency said the action reflects the prospect for a one- to two-notch downgrade due to CenterPoint’s proposed acquisition of Vectren.

S&P said it expects to resolve the CreditWatch listing by the date of the transaction's closing, which could be in early 2019.

The agency said the listing considers an expectation that CenterPoint’s financial measures will deteriorate from financing, including a disproportionate use of debt, to acquire Vectren.
