Canwest granted preliminary injunction against Chapter 15 creditors

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Oct. 15 - Canwest Global Communications Corp. has been granted a preliminary injunction to keep its creditors and counterparties from taking any actions or filing lawsuits against the company, according to a Thursday filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

The stay on any actions and lawsuits will continue until a hearing scheduled for Nov. 3 on recognition of Canwest's Chapter 15 bankruptcy case.

As previously reported, the company's court-appointed monitor made the Chapter 15 bankruptcy filing on Oct. 6 after Canwest filed for protection under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act in Canada.

Canwest Global is a Winnipeg, Man.-based media company. Its Chapter 15 case number is 09-15994.
