By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Sept. 20 - Calpine Corp. promoted Zamir Rauf to senior vice president of finance and treasurer, according to a company news release.

In his new role, Rauf will continue to oversee the project and corporate finance groups, in addition to managing Calpine's treasury function.

"Under Zamir's leadership, Calpine recently received a commitment for an amended and upsized exit facility, providing the company up to $8 billion in secured financing upon emergence from bankruptcy," interim chief financial officer Lisa Donahue said in the release.

Rauf joined the company in 2000 and has worked in strategic finance, financial structuring and project finance.

In addition, he works closely with the company's legal and restructuring advisors as well as with the creditors' committees to help ensure the successful reorganization of the company.

Before joining Calpine, Rauf was a manager with Enron North America.

He earned his bachelor's degree in business and commerce and masters in business administration-finance from the University of Houston.

Calpine, a San Jose, Calif., power company, filed for bankruptcy on Dec. 20, 2005 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. Its Chapter 11 case number is 05-60200.
