CryoLife gets FDA approval of new tips for BioGlue syringe applicators

By Lisa Kerner

Erie, Pa., Feb. 9 - CryoLife, Inc., said it has received approval from the Food and Drug Administration for two new spreader tips for its BioGlue Syringe applicators.

The new 12 mm and 16 mm fan-like extensions deliver a thinner, wider band of BioGlue Surgical Adhesive, according to a company news release. BioGlue is a two-component adhesive that creates a flexible, mechanical seal, independent of the body's clotting mechanism, within 20 to 30 seconds.

The new tips fit all sizes of the self-contained, disposable syringes, now available in 2 ml, 5 ml and 10 ml volumes. The tip collars are colored green to make them easily identifiable in the operating suite as part of the BioGlue Syringe system.

CryoLife's BioGlue Surgical Adhesive is FDA approved as an adjunct to sutures and staples in open surgical repair of large vessels in adults. It is also approved in the European Community (CE Mark), Canada and Australia.

CryoLife is an Atlanta-based biomaterials and biosurgical device company.
