S&P: Cigna view to positive

Standard & Poor's said it revised the outlook to positive from stable on Cigna Corp. and its core operating subsidiaries, Connecticut General Life Insurance Co. and Cigna Health and Life Insurance Co.

The agency also said it affirmed the BBB/A-2 counterparty credit rating on Cigna and the A long-term counterparty credit and financial strength ratings on Connecticut General and Cigna Health and Life.

Cigna's business and financial profiles are relatively strong compared with its peers, S&P said, and the company is well positioned to preserve its credit profile in an improved, but moderately stressed marketplace.

Cigna's operating performance and business profile are very strong and well supported by the scale and increasing diversification of its core businesses, the agency said.

The company has strong liquidity and financial flexibility, S&P said.
