Circuit City Stores operating loss shrinks to $746,000 in August

Pittsburgh, Oct. 15 - Circuit City Stores, Inc. reported an operating loss of $746,000 for August on zero net sales, according to its monthly operating report filed Friday with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

In comparison, the company posted a $1.36 million operating loss for July, also on zero net sales.

The net loss for August was $2.39 million, narrowing from a $3.62 million July net loss.

Circuit City had $456.87 million in cash and cash equivalents at Aug. 31, up from $455.84 million at the end of July.

The Richmond, Va., electronics retailer filed for bankruptcy on Nov. 10, 2008. Its Chapter 11 case number is 08-35653.
