St. Jude Medical, Boston Scientific settle litigation related to four patents

By Lisa Kerner

Charlotte, N.C., July 31 - St. Jude Medical, Inc. said an agreement with Boston Scientific Corp. effectively resolves four patent litigation matters pending between the companies and certain affiliates.

The companies have agreed to limit how two previously disclosed, but still unresolved, patent cases will be pursued, according to a news release.

In addition, under the agreement, St. Jude Medical and Boston Scientific have agreed to patent cross licenses involving the companies' cardiac rhythm management patent portfolios and certain patents held by each of their affiliates related to neuromodulation.

"We are pleased to have reached these agreements, which eliminate much of the expense and uncertainty associated with the litigation and enable the company to focus its resources and attention on providing patients with life-saving products," St. Jude Medical chairman, president and chief executive officer Daniel J. Starks said in the release.

Located in Natick, Mass., Boston Scientific develops, manufactures and markets medical devices.

St. Jude Medical is a medical device technology company based in St. Paul, Minn.
