Banco Central do Brasil decides to maintain the Selic rate at 7¼%

By Marisa Wong

Madison, Wis., Jan. 17 - Banco Central do Brasil's Monetary Policy Committee (Copom) said it decided to maintain the Selic rate at 7¼%.

The decision took into consideration the balance of risks for inflation, less intense than expected domestic activity recovery and complexity surrounding the international environment.

Eight members of the committee voted to maintain the rate.

The committee said that the meeting minutes will be released on Jan. 24.
