Armstrong posts $7.7 million operating income for quarter ended March 31

Pittsburgh, April 29 - Armstrong World Industries Inc. reported $7.7 million in operating income for the quarter ended March 31, according to a company news release.

The operating income is a reduction from the $40.8 million operating income reported in the same period in 2004.

Net sales were $840.7 million for the 2005 quarter compared to $845 million in 2004.

Cash and cash equivalents as of March 31 were $401.6 million compared to $436.1 million on March 31, 2004.

Armstrong, a Lancaster, Pa.-based flooring company, filed for bankruptcy on Dec. 6, 2000 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. Its Chapter 11 case number is 00-04771.
