AMR details American, AMR Eagle October revenue and traffic results

By Caroline Salls

Pittsburgh, Nov. 8 - AMR Corp. said American Airlines, Inc. and AMR Eagle Holding Corp. reported consolidated capacity and traffic for October that were 3.4% and 3.7% lower than in October 2011.

According to a company news release, these figures resulted in a consolidated load factor of 82.3%, a decrease of 0.3 points from October 2011.

AMR said the subsidiaries' international load factor increased 0.5 points to 81.3%, as traffic decreased 0.6% on 1.2% less capacity.

Domestic capacity and traffic were 5.0% and 6.0% lower year-over-year, respectively, resulting in a domestic load factor of 84%. AMR said the domestic load factor was 0.9 points lower compared to the same period of last year.

According to the release, October's consolidated passenger revenue per available seat mile (PRASM) increased an estimated 0.4% as opposed to the same period of 2011.

Absent a recent operational disruption that affected bookings for October travel, the company said PRASM would have been about 3.1% higher than in October 2011.

AMR said American Airlines and American Eagle cancelled more than 2,000 flights as a result of Hurricane Sandy, but the impact on PRASM was not significant.

On a consolidated basis, the company boarded 8.8 million passengers in October, the release said.

AMR Corp., the Fort Worth, Texas-based parent of American Airlines, filed for bankruptcy on Nov. 29, 2011 in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. Its Chapter 11 case number is 11-15463.
