Aetna files automatic shelf registration

Philadelphia, Dec. 5 - Aetna Inc. filed an automatic shelf registration in an S-3ASR filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The registration covers debt securities, warrants to purchase common stock, warrants to purchase debt securities, preferred stock, common stock, purchase contracts and units that may include any of those securities or securities of other entities. The securities may be structured as convertibles.

Proceeds will be used for general corporate purposes, including repaying debt.

The diversified health care benefits company is based in Hartford, Conn.
